Blog » Following but leading...nah but yeah
Seth Godin is a well-known entrepreneur. I'm not even sure what his claim to infamity is, I confess - hang on, let me Google...
SETH GODIN has written thirteen books that have been translated into more than thirty languages. Every one has been a bestseller. He writes about the post-industrial revolution, the way ideas spread, marketing, quitting, leadership and most of all, changing everything.
He's may not be specific but he's a great thinker.
Anyway I somehow read a blog post of his recently, which talked about developing your writing ability by writing daily. Even just a little. Good idea I thought. And he espoused to it. So I subscribed to his blog and I've been getting daily ideas from Seth — some I like, some I don't.
Most are short – I read those ones.
I think I follow Seth.
Derek Sivers, who I also just Googled, is another great but unspecific type:
Entrepreneur, programmer, avid student of life. I make useful things, and share what I learn.
And his great video post about being a First Follower, which I've shown at things I've presented, is one of the best leadership ideas I've encountered.
I'm not Derek's FF but I've been a First Follower of Minnie Baragwanath and the Be. Institute and that has been an experience of a lifetime.
And my wonderful colleague Lesley Slade warns me of the tyranny of followship.
What a wonderful paradox and dialectic.
So I thought I'd follow Seth and try short-blogging daily. But not until I've had a week's leave.
I'll start short daily blogging on 31 October.
Note: I may be wrong about this. Lesley will smile and say, "See, that's what comes of following," but that's ok, according to Kathryn Schultz.
